Songcatcher is movingly beautiful movie about a woman around the turn of the century who travels to Appalachia, where she hears old English folk ballads. They were maintained and passed down for generations within the tight-knit communities of the mountain people. So the woman decides to collect and records the songs and the story is of her struggles to do so. She falls in love and makes some shocking discoveries about life on the mountain. There are some hokey parts, particularly towards the end. But the best part of this movie is the music. The music and the people singing them will transport you. Watch it. It won't disappoint.
