Hot Meal

Its a hot, hot day, but a girl's gotta eat. Deviled eggs are a summertime classic for those days its too hot to cook.

Rose Hip November

Vashti Bunyan is a rare gem of a singer, who I must put into the category to the likings of Joni and Billie. Her voice is high, clear and strong while singing simple traditional melodies about life in the countryside. Vashti's story is a lovely one as well. She came to New York in the 1960s and discovered the music of Dylan, which inspired her become a musician. She released a lovely album Just Another Diamond Day in 1970, which didn't sell as well as hoped. She decided to give up music and go off to the Irish countryside to raise everntually three children. Little did she know that her LP was gaining followers and its price was driven quite high because of its rareity. In 2000, her only album was re-released on CD and it spoke to a new generation of folk musicians, namely Devendra Banhart and Joanna Newsom. Well, since then she has collaborated with many of these folks and also came out with a new album called Lookafter.

But for me, Just Another Diamond Day is the ultimate in 1960s traditional folk music. Its haunting, jolly, silly, heartbreaking and perfect. Here is one of my favorite songs from it, Rose Hip November. And an interview with Vashti where you can see how shy and sweet she is..

A Dream within a Dream

My dear Australian mate, George, told me about this film, Picnic at Hanging Rock that is apparently very classic Australian film. Being the uncultured gal I am, I had not heard it. But I watched it the other day and it was all I could hope or imagine! Beautiful 1970s take on the 1990s, with mystery, intrigue, lesbian undertones, psychedelic sequences, ambiguous narrative, beautiful setting, and perfect costumes! I would wear more white tea dresses, if I could learn how to not get them dirty. Here is the opening scene.

Best Friends

Scattered about the world you may be. I still love each and everyone of you dearly. And on this scorching Seattle day, I would like you to know that.

Deep in the Dark Forest

That is where I wish I was during this humid and hot, awful weather Seattle has had for DAYS! It won't end. So I am left dreaming about this darling place over in Mason County, nearby my family's cabin on Mason Lake. Its cool and dark under the tall trees and near the lake. There are eagles and fish and lily pads. I have always wanted to know the story behind why this little cabin, car, boat and whatnot that have been left alone for so long. There is the most amazing moss growing on everything that seems to have frozen everything in time.

Bluegrass Goodness

Awhile back, the lovely folks of the band Bearfoot came through Seattle and stayed at the hostel for wayward Alaskans that is my house. Such good people, who make such good music! Good check out their myspace and maybe catch them on tour this summer. Here are some of my favorites.

Poppy Appreciation

While I am housesitting, I am also bunny, kitty and fishy-sitting. But most special of all is the darling bunny rabbit, Poppy. She is a lap dog of sorts, for my Auntie's kindergarten. So she hops around the kitchen and will sit and let you pet her for ages. She has become a sort of therapy bunny for my friends. But because I am so shallow, I really enjoy how pretty and soft she is. I mean c'mon!

Chhheck it out!

Like many other girls in my sad financial state, I have started an Etsy shop. I'm calling it

L'histoire d'une de mes folies. You should go check it out! Here is some stuff I've put on there so far.

The Family Home

After several days of moving, fourth of july in Bellingham and several more days of non-functioning internet, I have finally returned! I am house-sitting for my dearest darling namesake, my aunt Melissa. Her house is something out a dream and has always been an inspiration. So here are a few snapshots of various corners I love.
